Who I am

I'm an amateur photographer based in Gauteng, with a full-time job in education. I started exploring photography in 2008 and kept finding birds in my viewfinder. In 2022 I bought a Sigma 150–600mm lens, a wonderful tool for birding, and decided to take bird and wildlife photography more seriously. I've kept a life list ever since. It currently stands at 429 species.

What I love about birding is that it's a hobby you can practice absolutely anywhere: your own garden, a public park, or the remotest corners of the country.

About this site

This site is a catalogue of my own birding and wildlife photographs, collected since 2022. Every photo here was taken by me, in South Africa.

My favourite destinations have been Kirstenbosch, Betty's Bay, Pafuri, St Lucia and the southern Kruger National Park. Closer to home, the Walter Sisulu National Botanical Garden and Rietvlei Nature Reserve are the local patches I return to again and again.

Gear

Most of the photographs on this site were taken with a Canon R10 and a Sigma 150–600mm f/5–6.3 DG OS HSM Contemporary lens. Some of the earlier pictures were taken with a Canon 60D.
